Cosmetics

The aim of test is to determine:
• sensory characteristics,
• comparison of characteristics of different preparations,
• determination of the level of their acceptability by responders.

To obtain the characteristics or comparison of products we determine a number of features.

For creams these are for example:
  • adhesion and distribution,
  • uniformity and consistency,
  • pillow effect,
  • absorption and smoothing,
  • greasiness, stickiness.

Sensory testing of cosmetics are carried out by the scaling method (more objective one) or the descriptive method and the results are prepared in the form of description of characteristic features or a profilogram.

The most often conducted tests:

  • laboratory sensory tests aiming at determination of sensory features of a cosmetic.
  • Comparative tests respective of a model or a few products in regard to one another - they all aim at finding out differences between products and checking their weak and strong sides.
  • Tests involving the hedonic scale e.g.: - I like, I don't like, I'll buy - I won't buy.

They enable determination of their acceptability level by responders
